Transcend Quilt - Duval Version

What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Design Inspiration

“Eudaimonia” is the Greek word for “human flourishing.” Eudaimonia Studio designs are inspired by the ancient question of what it means to live well. The Transcend quilt symbolizes many aspects of the early nineteenth century Transcendentalist movement, which emphasized - among other things - the value of individual intuition, the inherent creativity & goodness of people, and the divinity of nature. With its jagged shapes radiating outward, this design illustrates our ability to grow and transcend beyond our perceived earthly limits by looking inward and reconnecting with the natural world.

Details & Techniques

The Transcend quilt can be made in two versions - 6-color or 12-color - giving you the flexibility to explore contrast, texture, and movement in your own way. The pattern includes instructions for baby, throw, twin, queen, and king sizes, and the baby size is fat quarter or fat eighth friendly - depending on which version you choose!

The design comes together using two foundational techniques: half-square triangles (HSTs) and half-rectangle triangles (HRTs). If you’re new to HRTs or want to refine your skills, check out our Mastering Half Rectangle Triangle Workshop - its a great companion to this pattern and we offer a bundle deal!

This particular version is the 6-color version in throw size.

Fabrics

This version of the Transcend quilt features a mix of prints with a solid background to bring this quilt to life! The color palette blends earthy warmth with soft, desaturated tones to create a beautiful contrast to highlight the sharp geometry.

Be sure to check out all the different versions of this pattern for more inspiration!

Quilting

This quilt was quilted by me with echoing lines that trace the quilt’s geometric piecing. I especially love the effect that’s created in the quilt’s negative space, creating even more movement and interest when seen up close.
