About the design.

The Currents design abstractly represents the concept of wu wei - a central principle in Chinese and especially Daoist philosophy. The term literally translates to “non-doing.” While a common misconception, it is not about inaction; rather, it suggests we not resist forces outside of our control, and instead mindfully - and less effortlessly - respond by harnessing these winds & currents to advance our proverbial boat.

This fun, undulating design is a great introduction to curves with its large, forgiving blocks. Play around with color placement, and explore the many variations of this fun - and surprisingly quick! - quilt pattern.

Get the companion on-demand workshop.

For extra guidance & confidence, add the Currents Quilt Workshop. In this companion on-demand course, you can sew along with Brooke at your own pace with 20+ videos of demonstrations, guidance & all the helpful tips you'd get in a live workshop - from fabric selection considerations to final quilting design suggestions. Access to your workshop never expires, so watch the videos as often as you like, or whenever you need a refresher. Post in the Thinkific course platform to get help if you get stuck.

About the design.

The Repair design is inspired by a concept in certain cultures that emphasizes creating beauty from what is broken. Specifically, this idea is illustrated in Japanese culture through the stunning artform of Kintsugi—also known as kintsukuroi, which translates to “golden repair”—and in Judaism through tikkun olamHebrew for “repair the world.” That we can choose to see brokenness as opportunity is a wonderfully healing thought, it only requires the vision to see what’s possible to make from the broken pieces. On an individual level, we can use our imperfections & fractured past to be relatable, compassionate and resilient; on a societal level, we can find purpose & fulfillment in making the world more peaceful, just and kind through our everyday actions.

This dynamic quilt offers plenty of opportunity for color play, and makes for a great introduction to half-rectangle triangles (HRTs)! True to its inspiration, the Repair block was originally designed to have improv-cut or “wonky” units. This “imperfect” approach makes for a fun and carefree sewing with a unique, quirky final look.

The Villager quilt is inspired by the importance of coming together to lend a helping hand, and of being able to lean on one another. This versatile design, while looking complex, has simple, standard construction and is a quick sew.
