Alchemist Quilt - Muted Version
The appearance of things changes according to the emotions; and thus we see magic and beauty in them, while the magic and beauty are really in ourselves.
— Kahlil Gibran, The Broken Wings
Design Inspiration
“Eudaimonia” is the Greek word for “human flourishing.” Eudaimonia Studio’s modern quilt designs are inspired by the ancient question of what it means to live well. The Alchemist quilt is inspired by the power we have - the beauty & magic within - to influence our perception. Nurture this inner goodness & sense of awe, and find the world blossom with even more love & wonder. In this way, we can be the alchemist of our own experience.
Details & Techniques
The Alchemist quilt is a fresh take on tradition - this bold, geometric design is rooted in the classic log cabin block! The full quilt is made from four quadrants, each with an identically constructed block that gets rotated to create the final design. This pattern can be made in baby or throw size, with options for using 8 colors or for using whatever’s in your stash for a scrappy look! It’s a satisfying make for confident beginners - all for free!
Fabrics
This Muted, baby-sized version of the Alchemist quilt takes on a softer, more subtle feel with a palette of 8 toned-down solids. In contrast to the the Electric version, I sought to curate a more earthy colorway for this quilt that still creates an overall bold, multi-dimensional design.
The quilt top is all Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids:
The backing is AGF Queen Bee Olive by Sharon Holland
Binding is AGF Evolve 2.5

Quilting
This quilt was longarmed by Trace Creek Quilting using the Daisy Daze pantograph by Karlee Porter (@karleeporterdesign). The quilting seems to add a bit of a retro feel to the quilt, which I think complements the earthy color palette really well. When quilts have larger piecing, I like to look for larger-scale quilting designs to keep things in balance and add the right amount of interest and texture.
