Alchemist Quilt - Electric Version
The appearance of things changes according to the emotions; and thus we see magic and beauty in them, while the magic and beauty are really in ourselves.
— Kahlil Gibran, The Broken Wings
Design Inspiration
“Eudaimonia” is the Greek word for “human flourishing.” Eudaimonia Studio’s modern quilt designs are inspired by the ancient question of what it means to live well. The Alchemist quilt is inspired by the power we have - the beauty & magic within - to influence our perception. Nurture this inner goodness & sense of awe, and find the world blossom with even more love & wonder. In this way, we can be the alchemist of our own experience.
Details & Techniques
The Alchemist quilt is a fresh take on tradition - this bold, geometric design is rooted in the classic log cabin block! The full quilt is made from four quadrants, each with an identically constructed block that gets rotated to create the final design. This pattern can be made in a baby or throw size, with options for using 8 colors or using scraps and what’s in your statsh for a scrappy look! It’s a quick and satisfying make for confident beginners - all for free!
Fabrics
This Electric, throw-sized version of the Alchemist quilt comes to life with a bold palette of 8 saturated solids. For this quilt, I hoped to amplify the boldness of the large piecing by mixing brights, lights, and darks to create distinct dimensionality. This colorway felt like a risk, but one that I think definitely paid off!
The quilt top is all Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids:
Color 1: Rock Candy
Color 2: Sweet Macadamia
Color 3: Raw Gold
Color 4: Grapefruit
Color 5: Aero Blue
Color 6: Mediterraneo
Color 7: Sweet Tangerine
Color 8: Mirage Blue
The backing is AGF Wonderlust Boho by Pat Bravo
Binding is AGF Storybound 2.5

Quilting
This quilt was longarmed by Trace Creek Quilting using the Boho Birds pantograph by Melissa Kelley (Sew Shabby Quilting). I just love how this whimsical pantograph adds some additional interest and dimension to the large, solid pieces in the quilt. To me, it is another nod to how we can create our own beauty and magic in our experiences.
