Untethered Quilt - Midnight Version
Life sustains life. Let go of the ego and life takes care of itself through you.

Design Inspiration
“Eudaimonia” is the Greek word for “human flourishing.” Eudaimonia Studio’s modern quilt designs are inspired by the ancient question of what it means to live well. Our latest free quilt pattern, the Untethered Quilt, symbolizes loosening our grip on the self and ego. Imagine what is possible when we challenge the boundaries that divide ourselves from others, freeing us from the need to preserve what we think defines us.
Details & Techniques
The Untethered Quilt is throw-sized and finishes at 54” x 66”. It’s perfect for a confident beginner (and beyond!), using half-square triangles (HSTs). The pattern is straightforward to piece together with tons of options for playing with color and fabrics. If you’re comfortable with basic quilting techniques and ready to build your skills, this is a fun (and free!) project to dive into.
Fabrics
The Untethered Quilt is made with five colors - each used equally - and a background fabric. This pattern is easily adaptable to suit your personal style! Whether you dive into your scrap bin or use fat quarters, this design works beautifully with prints, solids, or a mix of both!
With this version, I sought to create a sort of ombre effect, with each row of blocks getting lighter as they radiate out from the center. This creates a sort of “lightness” effect, which further illustrates the benefits of untethering. I’d always envisioned this version with its deep navy background emulating a darkened sky - another call to embrace the emptiness.
The quilt top is all Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids:
The backing is AGF Downpour Copper by Katarina Roccella.
Binding is AGF Pure Solids Nova.

Quilting
This quilt was longarmed by Wild Phil Quilting using the Mini City of Fountains pantograph by Julie Hirt. To complement the structured piecing of the Untethered Quilt, I chose a quilting design with soft swirling lines to create balance in the finished look. Funny story: this pantograph is actually meant to mimic the shape of rainbows - but, because I completely forgot to note which end I consider the top of my quilt, it got quilted with beautiful scallops instead. And, honestly, I’m not mad about it! Mindy used Winline Textiles 100% cotton batting, which I think gives it just the perfect, smooth texture.
