Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

Design Inspiration

“Eudaimonia” is the Greek word for “human flourishing.” Eudaimonia Studio’s modern quilt designs are inspired by the ancient question of what it means to live well. The Bright Spots quilt is inspired by the concept of radical optimism . It represents the opportunities that present themselves when we stay open to the possibilities of what progress can be made in the face of unfortunate circumstances. With realistic optimism, conviction & skillful action, we can turn daunting challenges into dazzling bright spots.

About the design.

The Bright Spots quilt is inspired by the concept of radical optimism. It represents the opportunities that present themselves when we stay open to the possibilities of what progress can be made in the face of unfortunate circumstances. With realistic optimism, conviction & skillful action, we can turn daunting challenges into dazzling bright spots.

This simple-yet-impactful design is a quick project and offers a fantastic introduction to half-rectangle triangles (HRTs). Follow the standard color options, or take this quilt as an opportunity to use up those scraps!

Details & Techniques

The Bright Spots quilt pattern is available in 5 sizes (lap, throw, twin, queen, & king) making it a versatile project for any quilter. This pattern focuses on half-rectangle triangles (HRTs) and is a great introduction to add this technique to your repertoire! To help you master the pattern and HRTs, we’re also providing a video course that walks you through every step of this technique - check it out here!

Fabrics

The Bright Spots quilt uses colors equally throughout (the one exception is the lap size), and makers determine each block’s color combination, i.e., there is no predetermined color placement. There are options for fat-eighths and fat-quarters (depending on size), as well as scrappy versions too!

For this version, I aimed to create the look of electric-looking sparks against a night sky. While a white (or white-ish) background is often one of my a go-to’s, I like to also bring a quilt design to life with the “negative” perspective, as well. And, this star-like design gave me all the permission I needed to emulate a dark sky, which allows those Bright Spots to really shine.
